Natural Or Surgical Way To Stop Sweating | What Treatment Is Right?
Do you feel embarrassed or fearful about your excessive sweating? Well, you shouldn’t. Excessive sweating is a common disorder that can affect anyone at any age. Although excessive armpit sweating most often occurs after puberty, excessive hand and feet sweating can occur at any age – even as a child. Luckily there are excessive sweating treatments available for everyone. The only problem is just figuring out which one is best for you.
Not every treatment for excessive sweating works for everyone. For instance, some people’s excessive underarm sweating can be controlled by just using a prescription antiperspirant. If not too serious, even over-the-counter antiperspirants are able to control excessive sweating. When these are just not enough, medications can be prescribed. There are also more surgical procedures that can be given to cure excessive sweating.
Botox injections can be given as a treatment of excessive sweating in the underarm area mostly. The FDA has not approved Botox treatment for the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand because of risk factors. Another type of surgery that can cure sweating is called Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy in which part of the nerve supply to the sweat glands is destroyed. This surgery is used only as a last resort and is rarely used because of risk factors associated with the surgery.
Iontophoresis is also used to treat excessive sweating. In this procedure water is used to conduct an electric current to the skin, thus combating excessive sweating. There are numerous sessions involved in this treatment, as well as a maintenance program that requires two to three week intervals between treatments to upkeep results. It sounds quite painful, but it’s actually not.
And the moral of the story is…there are many safe and natural ways to cure your excessive sweating. For now, don’t fret too much. There are much worse things in life to worry about. Be informed and choose a treatment for your sweating problem that you feel will work best for you. Medication and surgery are not necessarily options that everyone is willing to take.
